Mayor’s Teacher of the Month Recognition Award
In May 2006, the Mayor established the Mayor’s Teacher of the Month (MTM) Recognition Award to honor outstanding San Francisco public school teachers for their dedication, professionalism and work on behalf of our city’s young people. Each month a teacher will be awarded the title of Teacher of Month on the basis of excellence in the classroom and service to students, school and community. Teachers are nominated at large and selected in a two-step process: first through a selection committee with representatives from the Mayor’s Office, Office of the Superintendent, and United Educators of San Francisco, and then through a blue-ribbon panel selected by the Mayor. All winners will receive a monetary reward and gifts for themselves and their classrooms. Additionally, each eligible recipient of the MTM Award will be submitted for consideration to the California Teacher of the Year Award.
