How To Cope With Learning Disabilities

Every day, we encounter something that we never thought existed; or something that our teachers have not taught us way back in school and we have just learned it until recently. It is what we call learning.  It is an ongoing process of gathering information based on experiences, knowledge and skills. How you behave or act today is how you have been using what you have learned from your previous experiences. Although it does not require any degree or certificate but it is also helpful in the learning process. But some have limited or have learning disabilities and most of them are children.

Children with learning disabilities or learning disorders need to be given much attention because they need assistance how to learn. These children cannot focus, cannot motivate themselves and cannot push themselves to try harder.  This disorder is caused by the brains’ discrepancy in communicating, receiving and processing information.  Children and adults have difficulty absorbing sensory information because they understand, hear and see things in a different manner. Also, although they have this kind of disorder, it does not mean that they have intelligence issue.

Studies’ regarding this disability has found that neuroplasticity can somehow help children and adult. Neuroplasticity is brains’ natural process to generate new cells and make new connections to recompense any changes or injuries.  As a parent, you should know how to act and help you children with learning disabilities. Patience and perseverance should come hand in hand because these children will think that you understand what they are going through and that you are willing to help. You need to help your build confidence and self esteem because this will help them in the learning process.

Parents should pay close attention to their child’s learning abilities at an early age to be able to know if there is a problem with your child’s ability to learn and in this way it can easily be corrected. Always show your love and support to them because it will help them get motivated. If you think that your child is having some difficulty learning, do not be hesitant to ask for help. You can always go and have your child evaluated by the pediatrician and if proven positive, ask how you can help your child and how he or she can improve.
