Hi this is Mayor Gavin Newsom.
Welcome to SF Connect – a new and innovative portal for civic engagement that connects San Franciscans with solutions.
The concept is simple: government only works if the people it serves are connected to the services they need.
Think of it this way: Have you ever seen a homeless person on the street and wondered what you can do to help?
I know I have. And that's why we started Project Homeless Connect – offering a new solution to an old problem.
Since we began Project Homeless Connect in October 2004, some 18,000 San Franciscans have volunteered their time to help connect over 10,000 homeless individuals with food, medical care eyeglasses, wheelchair repair, housing, and other vital assistance.
And in the process, we have moved San Francisco closer than ever before to ending homelessness as we know it.
If we can accomplish so much on an issue as difficult as homelessness, just imagine what we can do if we apply this same passion, this same commitment to the many complex problems we face.
That's what SF Connect is all about.
Rather than walking past that homeless person and wondering if there's something you can do volunteer at the next Project Homeless Connect.
Instead of bemoaning the condition of our parks, join Green Connect and become part of a regular work crew in your neighborhood park or plant a tree in front of your house.
Instead of worrying about the quality of our public schools, become part of Youth Connect and volunteer in a classroom or mentor an at-risk youth.
And instead of allowing the digital divide to grow even wider, lend your knowledge to low-income and technically disadvantaged families so that all San Franciscans have access to the same services and opportunities.
SF Connect is about making San Francisco a better place and it starts right now.
All I am asking for is your time.
Just one day.
Join SF Connect and...
Help create permanent housing for the homeless...
Revitalize a median strip...
Provide disadvantaged families with computers and training on how to use them...
Give our classroom teachers the resources they need to teach...
Make our city a place you are proud to call home.
Please join SF Connect and Give a Day to San Francisco.
